Description
Chukar Partridges are small, robust game birds that display unusual and vividly colored plumage. They do well in captivity or released and have a quickness about them. They are two-thirds the size of a pheasant with barred feathers on the sides and bright orange beaks. The black eye stripe runs down their necks and joins beneath their throats to form a "bib." They have bright red bills and feet with heavy black bars alongside their breasts. There are touches of a rich chestnut color on the crown tail and underparts. Males and females look alike with feet and legs free of feathers. As babies, they are brown with darker spots. They follow a regular game bird feeding program until they are ready for market or to be released. A permit may be needed. Chukar Partidges weigh between 1 and 1.8 lbs.
