Description
Welp Hatchery specializes in Cornish Rock Broilers. These are fast growing, meat-type chickens grown and raised by thousands of Americans across the country. We often use the term "explode" when referring to their rapid growth, as they are in the 5-6 pound dressed weight range at 49-56 days.

Ordered 150 birds in four separate batches. Butchered at six and half weeks weights were between 6 1/2 to 10 pounds for Straight Run. Did not have any leg issues. Lost at least two each order within the first three days. Customer Service is great, they gave me credit for the lost birds! My only disappointment was there was not extra chicks to account for the lost ones. Will order again next year.

Great!
We have ordered Cornish Cross straight run chicks from Welp several times now. We have always been very pleased with them and with the results once they are grown. They are healthy and grow to a good size - anywhere from 4.5 - 7.5 pounds dressed. It gives our customers a good choice of birds. We will continue to order from Welp.

Not the best
I had wrote a review on these already but i guess it was to soon they were nice and healty and i didnt have any lose but they must have sent me the wrong birds because they never did grow out like others ive had i finally started butching at 16 weeks and let some go to 18 weeks and was only getting 4.5 to 5lbs birds and the meat was tough even with slow cooking them the meat was not good...every other batch ive done i butched at 7 weeks and have gotten 6 to 7lb birds but not this group

Amazing
We will only order from Welp! We have ordered from other companies in the past but for over 10 years we find they are by far the best. Our chicks drive healthy with a few extra. Last year we butchered mor than we ordered!!! 4 males weighed over 10 lbs after 9 weeks and most over 9. And the females were around 7.5-8 lbs each. I highly recommend them. Five stars all the way!

Low weights
These birds were quite healthy and active and we had very little loss as they grew.
However even waiting until 14 wks to process they were so tiny.
The largest weighing in at under 5 lbs and the smallest under 3. We've grown hundreds of Cornish and never had such dismal weights. We typically get most of our birds between 6-9 lbs without the extra month of feeding them.
I almost wonder if they were even Cornish x. they feathered much better than Cornish typically do as well. So did look and seem like a heathy bird. But they will look kinda sad on the dinner table

Excellent
Purchased 30 of these they shipped out on Wednesday evening and I received them Friday morning. Opened the box and counted and they give me 3 extra chicks and they were very lively and energetic. When I put them in the brooder they run around all over and took right to the water and feed. 3 days later they are still health and lively running around. I've bought these same chicks from local farm store before but they don't compare to the ones I just got from Welp Hatchery....I will be placing more orders in the future....thanks

Slow growers
These birds were very slow to grow out. We are on week 11 with them and half of ours are under 3lbs still, with the biggest couple weighing in at 4.5lbs. We have fed them the same as other Cornish we have gotten from other companies that were 7-9lbs at 8 weeks old. So unfortunately these have not worked out for us. They will probably be 16-18 weeks old before we can butcher them.

Healthiest chicks!
I just received my order of 25 and I've never seen such alert and active chicks. My order from another company looked lethargic compared to these little guys. I'll gladly order from Welp again! Their customer service is also fantastic!

Ultimately Surprised
We ordered 105 and Welp shipped 110 chicks. It is day 10 and they are all still alive healthy and active. Welp was our first hatchery order for our pastured chicken business and will definitely be our first choice for when we start our rotation for 2019 in Feb. We absolutely couldn’t be happier and look forward to our next batch.

Awesome birds!
This is the 4th or 5th year I've raised these birds. Always have good luck with them, very healthy. I start them inside and then move them to a chicken tractor/pasture set up. In 8 weeks they easily dress out at 7 pounds with no leg issues.

400 plus birds
Over the last several years I have purchased hundreds of birds from Welp's. Normally I run 75 - 100 birds a year, last year I ran 50 and then a late group of 25, I ended up losing 3 do to critters (wife's little frick'n dog) the remaining 22 at 73 days dressed at almost 9 lb. average. Can't say enough about Welp Hatchery

Very healthy
Over the course of this year (2015) We have ordered 300 of these birds and have had only 3 that died. This was due to over crowding at the heat lamp. They are fast growing, healthy birds, very much unlike some I have gotten in the past. Only 2 have gone down due to leg issues. Most all are healthy enough to go into tweener free range pens once tail feathers appear. I have had to hold zero back at this stage of growth, due to slow development. All have had wonderful growth rates of free range pasture after being fully feathered. This is the best group of broilers we have ever raised. Very impressed with the lack of growth or health issues. Suitable for pasture raising too
We raise ours on pasture, and these birds do just great. They love the grass, stay cleaner and healthier and live as long as you'd like... we always keep some a few extra weeks and have reached 12-13 pound dressed weight for holiday eating, yum. There will always be one or two birds in an order who don't make it, or get badly splayed legs or other problems, but overall we're very happy with these birds.

Great Product, Great Value
Extremely happy with Welp's Cornish Cross.
Ordered 25 straight run CornishX and followed Welp's feeding directions exactly. Butchered at 8.5 weeks: All the males exceeded 7 lbs (dressed) and the females were all over 5 lbs.
I pastured them at 4.5 weeks. They ate grass, chased bugs and took dirt baths just like "real" chickens.
I started with Cornish cross 4 years ago. Have done different "heritage" breed meat birds as well as the "Ranger" variety. CornishX is the best bang for the buck and you are done in 6-9 weeks!
I ordered 30 more from Welp for the fall crop. The free shipping seals the deal over local grain store. Thank you for providing such a valuable product.

Wonderful
These birds grew so fast. We lost a few but only because of my bad management ie a few got out of the pen. Also very tasty, We no longer buy "store bought chicken". We order 60 chickens this year (2014).
