Turken (Naked Neck) - Female

Turkens are excellent brown egg layers and are also good for eating. The breed was developed in Eastern Europe which gave them the name “Transylvanian Naked Necks”. They are heat tolerant, self-reliant and friendly. These birds are also unique because of their turkey-like bare neck and they have only half the number of body feathers as most breeds of chickens. Turkens hatch with bare necks and are easily identified, although they can be multi-colored. When mature they are red with white in the neck and black in tail feathers. They also have an upright comb with five evenly serrated points. Hens are good setters. The typical weight for females is 5 lbs. and for males is 6 lbs.
